Spalted maple is a fun wood. After the maple tree is cut down, Mother Nature takes over and the ‘spalting’ or mold begins. The mold is the natural way nature decays the wood. Fortunately, we can stop the molding process and preserve the beauty left behind. The cigar pen does a wonderful job of showing off Mother Nature’s masterpiece.

I love buckeye burl. The color ranges swirls from black to gray and tans. It is one of the most surprising woods to work with because the colors are never the same way twice. The cigar pen has a very deliberate feel to it, just enough weight to feel substantial, but not too much to overload.

Baton closed

Custom designed for the director on the go. This baton looks like a pen, but becomes a baton in the blink of an eye. Natural holly is white and catches the eyes of the musicians. The ambrosia beetle burrows into the maple tree, leaving tunnels and striking discolorations behind. The beetles are gone, but the wood is very beautiful.
