Maple is a surprising wood, especially when Mother Nature gets her way. After this tree was cut, fungus set in to start the decaying process, turning the normally light wood dark. Boxelder burl has some of the most sought after figure and grain. One of it’s unique features is how well it takes colored dyes. This blue shows off the wood very well. Sometimes, the dye doesn’t take and there are beautiful ‘islands’ in a blue ocean.
